Shipping
Orders placed Monday through Friday ship within 1–2 business days. Orders placed on a weekend or holiday ship the next business day. You will get a confirmation email with tracking the moment your package leaves our facility.
Shipping is free on every order within the United States. No minimum, no code required.
Most domestic orders arrive within 3–7 business days of shipping. Expedited shipping is available at checkout for an additional charge; expedited orders placed before 12pm ET on a business day ship the same day.
Delivery estimates are exactly that — estimates. Carriers occasionally deliver outside their stated window, particularly during weather events and holiday periods.
Carriers can take up to 24 hours to post the first scan, and packages sometimes travel for a day or two between scans. If your tracking has shown no movement for 7 business days, email hello@composerx.com with your order number and we will open an investigation with the carrier.
Check with everyone in your household, look on porches and side entrances, and check with your building’s front desk or mailroom. Carriers also occasionally mark a package delivered up to a day before it arrives.
If it still hasn’t turned up 3 business days after the delivery scan, email hello@composerx.com with your order number and delivery address and we will make it right.
Not yet. We currently ship within the 50 United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Join our email list and you will hear from us the day international shipping opens.
Yes to both. Expedited shipping is not available to PO boxes, APO/FPO/DPO addresses, or US territories — please select standard shipping for these destinations.
No. Once your package is with the carrier, the delivery window is theirs to set.
Returns & The 30-Day Guarantee
The 30-Day Sensitive Skin Guarantee. Try ComposeRx for 30 days from the date your order is delivered. If your skin doesn’t get along with it, we will refund your full purchase price to your original payment method.
Because this guarantee covers opened, used product, a few conditions apply and we would rather you read them here than discover them later:
- Applies to your first ComposeRx order, one guarantee claim per customer.
- The product must be at least half full, and you will be asked to send a photo of your tube showing the lot number on the crimp.
- Request must be made within 60 days of delivery.
- Refund is the full price you paid for the product. Original expedited shipping charges, if any, are not refunded.
- ComposeRx purchases only — see the retailer question below.
- We monitor claims for abuse and reserve the right to decline a claim or refuse future orders.
Unopened product in its original packaging can be returned within 60 days for any reason at all, under the same window.
Stop using it, and email hello@composerx.com. Tell us what happened and roughly when it started.
Two things then happen. First, we will get you refunded under the guarantee above. Second — and this matters to us more — we will ask you a few questions about the reaction. ComposeRx was built by a dermatologist for skin that reacts, and every reaction report goes into our formulation record. You are not being difficult. You are giving us data we cannot get any other way.
If you are experiencing anything beyond mild, short-lived irritation, please contact your physician.
Email hello@composerx.com with your order number and a sentence about what went wrong. A person will reply within one business day with instructions for your specific situation.
We deliberately do not run an automated returns portal. For a sensitive-skin product, the reason for a return is usually worth an actual conversation.
We issue refunds within 2 business days of receiving the product back. Your bank or card issuer then takes another 3–10 business days to post it — that part is out of our hands.
We can only refund orders placed on composerx.com. Please contact the retailer directly — their return policy applies.
The guarantee covers your first ComposeRx order, whether that order was a one-time purchase or the first shipment of a subscription. Later subscription shipments are covered by our standard unopened-product return window. Requesting a refund does not cancel your subscription — you’ll need to cancel that separately, and we’ve made it a single click.
Orders
Email hello@composerx.com immediately with “Cancel Order” or “Change Order” and your order number in the subject line. We ship incredibly fast, which is wonderful right up until the moment you want to catch an order. We will do our best to attempt to help you.
Same answer, same urgency: email hello@composerx.com with “Change Address” and your order number in the subject line. Once an order has been processed, we are unable to change it.
Enter it in the “discount code” field at checkout. Codes cannot be combined with one another, and cannot be applied after an order is placed.
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal. Shop Pay Installments lets you split eligible orders into four interest-free payments.
Yes. Digital ComposeRx gift cards are available in several denominations and are delivered by email, immediately. They never expire.
Enter the code in the “Gift card or discount code” field at checkout. Any unused balance stays on the card for next time. Gift cards are like cash, please keep track as they can not be replaced if lost.
Not at this time. We would rather put the formulation budget into the tube you actually bought.

Products & Ingredients
CRx SkinRenew is our proprietary system of clinically researched actives that work together to reduce the appearance of redness and dark spots: niacinamide, oat kernel extract, licorice-derived stearyl glycyrrhetinate, lycopene, glycerin, and alpha-bisabolol.
The system is the point. Most products contain one or two of these at a concentration too low to do anything measurable. Ours are dosed at the concentrations the published research actually studied.
Upwell is our marine ingredient platform, built on Tisochrysis lutea — a microalga discovered and researched at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and sustainably harvested through a carbon-negative process.
It is naturally rich in fucoxanthin, a carotenoid that absorbs blue-green light and delivers antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefit. We use it in place of petroleum-derived wax and dimethicone.
SAFE is the formulation standard every ComposeRx product is held to: Skin barrier support, without Allergenic preservatives, Fragrance, or Essential oils.
Those three exclusions are the most common triggers in “gentle” skincare, and they are in an enormous number of products marketed for sensitive skin. We took them out and then had to work considerably harder to make the formula perform. That was the trade we were willing to make.
Beyond the SAFE exclusions: no synthetic fragrance or parfum, no phenoxyethanol, formaldehyde releasers, or MI/MCI, no phthalates, no SLS or SLES, no PEGs or polysorbates, no BHA or BHT, no PFAS or cyclic silicones, no artificial colorants, and no oxybenzone, octinoxate, octocrylene, or homosalate in our sun care.
The full standard, and our reasoning for each exclusion, lives on our Clean at ComposeRx page.
Yes — genuinely fragrance-free. No parfum, no synthetic fragrance, and no essential oils used as fragrance. Any scent you notice is the raw materials themselves.
Yes to all three. ComposeRx is Leaping Bunny certified, and we do not test on animals or sell in markets that require it.
In FDA-registered manufacturing facilities in the United States, from globally sourced ingredients.
Vital Repair is formulated to avoid the ingredients most commonly associated with clogged pores, including the heavy oleic-acid-rich oils that cause trouble for acne-prone skin.
At the recommended amount — a pea-sized dose morning and night — a 50 ml tube lasts roughly two months.
That is normal and expected. We use no artificial colorants, and several of our actives are botanically derived, so shade varies subtly from batch to batch. If the product smells off, has separated, or has changed dramatically, stop using it and contact us with the lot number.
Our cartons are recyclable curbside. Our tubes are created using 70% Post Consumer Recycled material and are recyclable. Tubes require the cap and tube to be separated, and acceptance varies by municipality — check your local guidelines. We are working toward a take-back program and will announce it here first.
Enter your email on the product page to join the waitlist. Waitlist members are notified before we announce restocks anywhere else.
Apply a pea-sized amount to clean skin morning and night. In the morning, follow with sunscreen. It layers over a serum and under makeup without pilling.
Sensitive Skin Questions
It shouldn’t. Vital Repair contains no fragrance, no essential oils, no denatured alcohol, and no allergenic preservatives — the four things most likely to make a reactive face burn.
That said, no formula is universally tolerated, and if you have reactive skin you already know that. That is exactly what the 30-day guarantee is for.
Yes, and we would say this even about our own product. Apply a small amount to the inner forearm or just behind the jawline for three consecutive days before using it on your whole face. If you have a history of contact dermatitis or multiple known allergies, patch test for a full week and review the ingredient list with your dermatologist first.
ComposeRx was formulated with rosacea in mind. Its anti-redness system — niacinamide, licorice-derived stearyl glycyrrhetinate, oat kernel extract, and alpha-bisabolol — is built from ingredients with published clinical evidence for visible redness in rosacea specifically, at the concentrations those studies used.
It is a skincare product, not a treatment for rosacea. If you are on a prescription regimen, keep taking it, and see the prescriptions question below.
ComposeRx is formulated to improve the appearance of dark spots and uneven tone. Niacinamide and alpha-bisabolol both act on the pathway that produces excess pigment, and lycopene and Polypodium leucotomos defend against the UV and blue-light exposure that drives pigment to come back.
Two honest caveats. Pigment responds slowly — think months, not weeks. And no topical will outrun unprotected sun exposure; daily sunscreen is not optional if dark spots are your concern.
For some skin, yes. Blue light between 400 and 440 nm has been shown to trigger pigment production, generate reactive oxygen species, and damage skin cells. It matters most if you have skin of color, or if you tend to develop brown marks after acne or any kind of irritation.
You can read the research, with citations, in The Skin Journal.
ComposeRx is built around barrier repair — oat kernel extract, squalane, glycerin, and a deliberate minimum of the disruptive oleic fatty acids that thin an already-compromised barrier. It contains none of the common eczema triggers.
During an active flare, follow your dermatologist’s direction first.
Many patients do, and it was formulated with post-procedure skin in mind — no acids, no retinoids, no fragrance, no essential oils.
Post-procedure skin is a medical situation, though, and timing depends entirely on the procedure and on you. Ask the clinician who performed it when to reintroduce products, and show them the ingredient list.
Generally, yes, and moisturizer often makes a prescription retinoid considerably more tolerable. Apply your prescription to clean skin first, let it absorb for a few minutes, then layer Vital Repair on top. Some people prefer the reverse — moisturizer first as a buffer — which reduces irritation and may slightly reduce the prescription’s strength.
Your prescriber knows your regimen. Ask them which order they want.
Yes, up to the orbital bone. It is not formulated as an eye cream and is not ophthalmologist-tested for use on the lid margin, so keep it out of the eye itself.
Hydration and comfort, within days. Visible redness, typically 4 to 6 weeks. Dark spots and uneven tone are the slowest to move — give it a full 8 to 12 weeks, and be consistent, and wear sunscreen.
No. Vital Repair is a treatment moisturizer, and it needs sunscreen over it every morning — particularly if you are treating dark spots. Vital Defense Moisturizer + SPF Sunscreen launches later this year.
It means a practicing dermatologist formulated it. ComposeRx was co-founded by Dr. Molly Wanner, a board-certified dermatologist with more than 15 years of clinical experience and over 20,000 patient visits, and by Kathryn Dickinson, who founded the clean beauty marketplace Aillea. Both have sensitive skin. Six years and a great many iterations went into the first tube.
The whole story is on Our Story.
Yes, Vital Repair Hydrating Moisturizer was clinically tested with a 3rd party clinical laboratory.
